We all have a voice and we have to use it to the best of our abilities; to educate, to inspire, to grow and to help make a change ❤
Behind the stacks of celebrity gossip magazines with headlines and hashtags about these ridiculous Snapchat feuds, there are celebrities using their platforms to speak out about real issues and are striving to make a positive change in our society.
These individuals are using their influential voices to discuss the most important issues facing our society. Topics like police brutality, gender equality, the black lives matter movement, mental health, sexual assault, women’s rights, climate change and sooooo much more.
“If I can use my voice for something other than singing, I’m gonna do it”
– Demi Lovato
Let’s talk about the lovely Demi Lovato, singer and Mental Health activist extraordinaire who speaks from real life experiences. As a young women diagnosed with Bipolar II disorder while at a treatment center for an eating disorder and self-harm, she has A LOT to share with those struggling with similar issues.
Mental health is something that’s definitely not discussed enough – not many people want to talk about self-harm and mental illness because of the stigma surrounding the topic. But, why are people so afraid to talk about something SO important? There are so so many young men and women out there that are suffering from these illnesses and are terrified to ask for help because of the response they might receive – this needs to end! Demi recently spoke out about mental health during the DNC. Check out this awesome lady giving us the facts! – thank you Demi for using your voice and your story to inspire recovery for so many people ❤
Isn’t she wonderful?!
Another powerful voice that doesn’t shy away from mature and important conversations is Disney Channel star, Rowan Blanchard. Rowan has spoken out on social media about gender equality, the black lives matter movement, police brutality, feminism, sexual identity and literally everything that’s important…..and she’s only 14. Rowan has said many amazing, wonderful and educational things but last year she came out with a 3-part Instagram post discussing modern feminism and it went VIRAL. It was sophisticated, intelligent and got straight to the point addressing white privilege, the wage gap and internet misogyny. I am currently giving Rowan a standing ovation.
UMMM, and how can we forget Emma Watson’s INCREDIBLE speech at the U.N. discussing gender equality – and how its not just a women’s issue, it’s a human rights issue. THANK YOU! *snaps*
I’m sure you have all seen it but if you would like to watch this inspiring speech again. here it is for your viewing pleasure 🙂
Okay, now we are getting serious. So Leo won an Oscar (finally!) and of course he used his acceptance speech to thank his mom…oh wait no.. he discussed CLIMATE CHANGE. What a wonderful man. Climate change is huge and it’s a serious issue facing our world. Leo not only got a standing ovation, but got people to discuss climate change.
(apparently some people don’t believe it’s happening…welllp sorry to break it to you but your hairspray does effect the ozone layer even if the door in your fancy NYC apartment is closed)
“Climate change is real. It is happening right now. It’s the most urgent threat facing our entire species and we need to work collectively together and stop procrastinating.” – Leonardo DiCaprio
Thank you Leo, for your intelligent words, beautiful face and lovely work. What a dude.
Oh, and remember that time Miley Cyrus won Video of the Year at the 2014 VMA’s and instead of thanking her parents and fans she had a friend, Jesse, get up to draw attention to the 1.6 MILLION runaway and homeless children and teens in america and shared his personal experience.
“I’ve been an extra in your movies, I’ve been an extra in your lives”- Jesse
You can watch the speech here!
I could go on foreverrrrrrrr, these are just a few of the many celebrities using their platforms to educate and inspire – not for followers, likes or views and all that nonsense but because they truly care and want to make a change!
