With summer coming just around the corner, many people are predicting what songs will be constantly playing on the radio as we enjoy the hot weather. 2017 has been a great year of success for women, as many top charting songs were sung exclusively by women. Since we are all about female empowerment at 6/8 Records I thought it would be fun to compile a list of popular and independent female artists whose songs are bound to be stuck in our heads for the next few months!
Here are my predictions for eight singles sung by women that will be known as the summer hits of 2017:
Miley Cyrus, “Malibu”
“Malibu” is the much anticipated new single from Miley Cyrus which recently debuted on May 11. The raw lyrics about her relationship and stripped down vocals resembling the calm of Malibu beaches are much different than anything she has ever released before; this makes it the perfect summer song to listen to while driving to the beach or just hanging out with friends!
Lady Gaga, “The Cure”
“The Cure” is the newest single from Lady Gaga that has all of the components for a top summer hit, including a catchy beat drop after the chorus. This is the perfect song to blast on the radio at a summer party or to scream at the top of your lungs at one of Lady Gaga’s outdoor stadium concerts!

Camila Cabello, “Crying in the Club”
“Crying in the Club” is the debut single from Camila Cabello after her departure from the popular girl group Fifth Harmony. With a catchy beat, meaningful lyrics (thanks to the help of cowriter Sia), and a steamy music video, this song is sure to be playing in every club throughout this summer.
Sigrid, “Don’t Kill My Vibe”
Sigrid, a Norwegian singer and songwriter, has gained international success with her new single “Don’t Kill My Vibe” due to its indie sound. This is my prediction for a summer hit in America because the song has recently started to chart in Australia & the United Kingdom and is already spreading; Sigrid recently performed the single on The Late Late Show With James Corden so it is bound to chart in the United States within the next few months.
Katy Perry ft. Nicki Minaj, “Swish Swish”
“Swish Swish”, the newest single from pop singer Katy Perry, involves a fierce collaboration with female rapper Nicki Minaj. The song also has a catchy bass line and will definitely be a strong contender to be this summer’s #1 anthem. I can already predict that this song will be the new crowd favorite at every future Katy Perry concert!

Lorde, “Perfect Places”
“Perfect Places”, the third single from Grammy Award winner Lorde’s new album, has the ideal combination of both pop and indie roots to make it a radio hit this summer. With this single being released just under a week ago it has not climbed to the top of the charts yet; although I can predict that it will become huge within the next few months due to the high anticipation for new music from Lorde and the quality song she released.
Halsey, “Now or Never”
Halsey is an independent artist who broke into the pop scene in 2015 with her first critically acclaimed album Badlands. Halsey’s poetic lyrics are centered around feminism and the production of her music includes catchy hooks and bass lines. “Now or Never” is the first single off her new album and represents a new era in her career; this song will definitely be a hit this summer and fans can look forward to hearing it while Halsey is on tour.

Hailee Steinfeld, “Most Girls”
Hailee Steinfeld is a young actress turned pop artist who is known for releasing music about female empowerment and self love. Her past single “Love Myself” climbed the charts in late 2015 which left over a year for fans to wait patiently for new music – but her new song “Most Girls” did not disappoint! The lyrics and music video empower women to stop competing against one another and to instead celebrate their unique qualities. This song is sure to be a feminist anthem and will be playing at 6/8 Records this summer!
Happy listening this Summer!
