Women at SXSW 2018

Fresh off the heels of International Women’s Day and aptly during Women’s History Month of March, music and media’s biggest festival and conference – South By Southwest (SXSW) – is here, with an ever-increasing focus on women. Although women have been successful in the field of music/music business since the beginning, it’s still very much a male-heavy industry (Want proof? Try attending an AES conference sometime!). However, we know all of that’s changing, and it’s exciting. At this year’s Oscars, Academy Award-winning songwriter Kristen Anderson-Lopez exclaimed in her acceptance speech, “… not only are we diverse, but we are close to 50-50% for gender representation,” which was met to great applause.  And in that spirit, we want to salute SXSW for the female-focused events, performances, panels, podcasts, and interviews that are taking place this year. For this week’s #WCW Wednesday Blog, we wanted to highlight our favorite events and articles related to Women at SXSW this year.

And that’s not all! We’ve compiled a Spotify playlist with some of our favorite ladies playing the festival this week. Listen here, or on the Spotify player below.
